JAPAN-AMERICA SOCIETY OF KOBE (JASK) has held various activities for the purpose of contributing to friendship and goodwill between Japan and America since its establishment in 1908 in Kobe. As one of those activities, we will have the 27th JASK CUP English Recitation Contest for High School Freshmen in Hyogo Prefecture this year.
The purpose of this contest is not only to enhance the ability to recite and give a speech in English, but also to promote understanding of the history and culture of America and the way of thinking of American people through the contest, which we think is very important. Fortunately, we have already had over 1,020 participants. We are very grateful for the understanding and efforts of teachers at each high school who guide and encourage their students.

Preliminary Contest Recitation Subject for this year is the speech which Tina Seelig, an American entrepreneur and educator, gave at the commencement of Stanford’s Online High School, “Who Will Hold Your Story?”
Through reciting this speech in English, we hope students acquire a practical English ability as a tool for mutual understanding and international interacting, and eventually we also hope that as many students as possible will build the international society in the future.
In addition, at the final round next year we will hold a social where all the participants, including those of the preliminary round, can attend and interact together. We hope as many students as possible will attend.
